Despite the extreme heat and almost constant need for an iced coffee, I managed to scout out a very special coffee spot during my very quick and spontaneous visit to Barcelona. This shop, called, Skye Coffee Co., is located at c/Pamplona 88 in Barcelona's Pablenou district, a neighbourhood surrounded by auto shops and hardware stores.
For that reason, It's no surprise that the interior is perhaps suspect to be an old garage, with floor-to-ceiling windows as the entrance and a space that extends far enough back to have once fit a handful of vehicles.
Today however, the space is revamped and instead is home to one 1972 Citroen HY spewing out coffee, a few tables with independent magazines on top, and the multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm, Castel Veciana's, office space in the far back. To call the place spacious would be an understatement and I wouldn't go as far as calling the decor minimalist. Perhaps sparse is a better word.
And while the place isn't necessarily cozy, it certainly is cool.
With so much space, there's a serene silence when you step in. Skye is often used for pop-up events and business meetings and, considering the layout, it's an ideal place for that.
The coffee served is proud in its simplicity, either as an espresso or with milk. They tend to use local Spanish coffee roaster, Ride Side Coffee, but also occasionally provide from international roasters, depending on what and where is happening globally in the harvesting season.
Skye Coffee Co. was the ideal place to caffeinate me for my day of exploring Barcelona. For others, it may be a space for a job interview or a coffee tasting event. Regardless, its overall aesthetic and tasty beverages are well worth the visit.
Open 9:00 - 13:30 on weekdays, closed on weekends.
