Is it just me or does it seem like almost every Christmas song is writing about a long distance relationship? I’m sure I’m extra aware of it because I’m currently in one, but nevertheless, there’s a lot of songs about yearning hearts and missing home around Christmastime.
One song at the front of this genre is the Mariah Carey classic, All I Want For Christmas Is You. Released in 1994 with her Merry Christmas album, this song has been recognized as a favourite come this time of year. Mariah was one of the greatest pop stars in the 90’s, but why do we keep on coming back to this song? It’s fun, it’s about love, it’s a great song to dance to, Mariah’s voice is off the charts, and its powerful - it screams Christmas!
The music video is filled with Christmas nostalgia. It’s almost filmed in a “home video style”, with various Christmastime activities like tree decorating, taking pictures with Santa, tobogganing, simply frolicking in the snow, opening presents, and soooo many animals.
Also, If anybody knows where I can get a red snowsuit like Mariah’s, *please* message me.
Merry Christmas everyone and may all your wishes come true xx
